Check out http://www.keh.com and do a search for used Nikon 300 f2.8s. You might be surprised how much less you can get a used lens for. Much cheaper than switching your whole Nikon system over to Canon for just a lens. Just my two cents.

I like it because there is a lot more fresh snow to walk in. I also enjoy the lack of people in the middle of the woods.
